The Treachery of Tickets

SNVRKOTICS Wiki · Last reviewed · Markdown

The Treachery of Tickets is a 2026 paper artwork by SNVRK: a replica New York City parking-ticket envelope whose face reads "THIS IS NOT A TICKET." Its title and conceit follow René Magritte's The Treachery of Images (1929). It was distributed as the NYC Ticketstorm on June 6, 2026, in an edition SNVRK puts at 100,000 cards of 7.5 by 5.5 inches.

Overview

The work reproduces a New York City parking-ticket envelope closely enough to be mistaken for one, with a single change: the face reads, in bold white type, "THIS IS NOT A TICKET." SNVRK distributed it himself in the early hours of June 6, 2026, as the NYC Ticketstorm, leaving it on the windshields of parked cars in Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO and Boerum Hill.[1]

Influence and intent

The title and the denial printed on the object follow René Magritte's The Treachery of Images (1929), the painting of a pipe captioned "Ceci n'est pas une pipe." SNVRK has described the aim as provoking the reflexive dread of a fine and then undoing it with the text — and, at the scale of a neighborhood, turning streets into a temporary gallery while promoting SNVRKOLEPSY.[1]
